THE FRESHEST 'TWO LOONIES TOUR' VANCOUVER DATE

Fresh off playing The Rub in NY, Kutcorners and Marvel have been taking their “Live Set” across Canada and the U.S. tearing the roof off every stop along the way. This Thursday, Dec 6^th the “Two Loonies” Tour is touching down inside The Kill Joy in Yaletown for this one night only pop up show. The Vancouver show is an important one to "The Freshest". The crew has recently expanded and relocated to different regions of the globe and will re-unite for this one special show in their hometown. The night will showcase brand new material from Kutcorners and Marvel's “Live Set”, a special “Video Set” by DJ Seko, plus DJ sets from Rico Uno and the gang. The Vancouver date of the “Two Loonies” tour isn’t just a party, it’s a show and an event all wrapped up in one evening of good music and good times. And it’s free!

Last night in the spirit of Christmas giving, Donnelly Hospitality Management (DHM) had their 7th Annual Toy Drive in association with the Salvation Army. In the past, they have provided all DHM staff with Toys ‘R’ Us gift certificates to purchase toys for needy children. This year, they expanded their effort to include their suppliers, close industry partners and VIP customers. We (the freshest) were in like a dirty shit, and headed up Toy's R Us late last night and picked up some fun toys for the yout dem! We were shocked to see the ammount of toys on the patio. Last year’s total of donations was $23,000 and this year they projected to gather over $28,000 worth of toys.

Sharks + Hammers

Today was the soft opening of Sharks + Hammers, what does that mean exactly?  I couldnt find out but i did find a great new store. Located @ 56a Powell Street;  Sharks + Hammers is the brain child of  Rhek and Brand.  Im realy proud of  these guys as this appears to be a proper outlet for Rhek's unlimited creativity.  I am proud to say I was the first official customer of the store.. woo woo. Check it out, it's TFK approved.
 

Pride day reggae party WTF?

This long weekend was nothing short of perfect. Sunday afternoon, Rico, Kutcorners, and I rode our bikes over to Davie street (pause) where tons of events were going on.  I honestly think our party was the best by far, amazing food, great people, and music was on point. Big shout out to the crew from Foundation Radio for holding it down, on the DJ/Bongo/Live Bass/hospitality tip!

Last night I fell asleep getting together some music to make edits of when I stumbled across a Canadian pianist you may or may not be familiar with. Galt MacDermont is a Canadian Pianist who was born in Montreal in 1928. When the Canadian government appointed his father to be the Commissioner to South Africa he moved to Cape Town (where my dad was born) and studied African music. MacDermont later moved back to Canada and went on to score a movie called "Cotton Comes to Harlem" Starring Red Foxx.

His best known work is scoring the musical Hair! which he received one of his two Grammy awards for in 1969. Most of us should be familiar (get familiar!) because of the countless hip hop producers who sampled this Canadian Legend. Here are a few of my favorites;
